About 100 people and pooches headed to Heritage Park East, 1202 Garden Ridge Blvd., on Friday for the ribbon cutting of Flower Mound’s first dog park: The Hound Mound.
“It’s been on residents’ lists of wants for 10 years or more,” said Town Council Member Bryan Webb. “Town council worked hard for three and a half years to select a location for it and everything else.”
Plans for the park were approved on Oct. 19.
The five-acre park has an area for small dogs under 25 pounds, an area for large dogs over 25 pounds, and one for large and small dogs on a rotating basis when one of the areas needs to rest for grass regrowth.
Amenities include natural shade, irrigation, seating, water fountains, trash cans, pet waste stations, pet rinse areas, landscaping and 40 parking spaces.
The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk, except Wednesdays when its closed for maintenance. For more information, visit flower-mound.com/dogpark.
