Keep America Beautiful’s National Awards acknowledge the passion, dedication and impact of Keep America Beautiful’s affiliates from across the nation as well as partner organizations and individuals who share Keep America Beautiful’s vision of a country in which every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live. Established in 1953, Keep America Beautiful consists of a national network of more than 620 statewide and community-based affiliates whose programs, initiatives and efforts, supported by millions of volunteers, help transform public spaces into beautiful places.
“These imaginative, inspirational and transformative community leaders help bring to life creative, resourceful and meaningful programs in their communities,” said Mike Rosen, Keep America Beautiful senior vice president, marketing and communications, who served as emcee of the event. “It’s my privilege to recognize Keep Lewisville Beautiful and Amy Wells for such valuable, mission-based work that helps their community be more socially connected, environmentally healthy and economically sound.”
Keep Lewisville Beautiful was recognized for:
- Spring Clean Up: The KLB organization brings together thousands of local volunteers annually to the benefit the community through litter prevention and cleanup! In 2016, KLB had a record breaking 779 volunteers who contributed over 3,286 volunteer hours removing 6.75 TONS of trash from the Lewisville community in just 3 hours!
- Make A Difference Day projects: Each year KLB volunteers participate in a beautification project that improves the appearance, instills pride, and has a positive impact on economic development and prosperity. For National Planting Day, 213 KLB volunteers logged 531 volunteer hours seeding 2 acres of wildflowers, sealing 85 wooden benches and structures, cleaned and cleared 2
trails of debris, and removed invasive species from 3 educational gardens at LISDOLA. In addition to these plantings, volunteers also helped built plots in Lewisville’s organic community garden, cleared out abandoned plots, and improved walkways for community gardeners at the Rich Lubke Organic Community Garden.
- Trinity Trash Bash Waterway Cleanup: KLB believes that waterway health and education is important for a healthy community! As part of our Texas Waterway Cleanup event, 506 KLB volunteers helped to remove 6.6 TONS of illegal dumping and litter from local creeks, streams, shoreline, and waterways. In conjunction with the cleanup, KLB hosted a special Texas Arbor Day celebration and gave away 158 trees to be planted in our community.
“I am so proud of what the KLB organization and its volunteers have accomplished together. Thanks to over 4,603 event volunteers and participants, KLB programs were able to give back over $225,000 in in-kind litter abatement and beautification services to the Lewisville community and removed 30.65 tons of trash from local parks, medians, and waterways. Last year was a record breaking year for our nonprofit organization and we look forward to accomplishing even more in 2017 with the community’s help” said Amy Wells, Keep Lewisville Beautiful Executive Director. “We are honored to receive this award from Keep America Beautiful, and bring it back to our community”.
