Construction crews are preparing the property on the southwest corner of Civic Circle and Valley Parkway for a new Lee Walker Government Center, which should be ready in either late 2018 or early 2019.

The forthcoming building, as well as the three-story Precinct 3 Government Center across from it that opened in the middle of last year, come from Denton County’s capital improvement program, replacing facilities that date back to the 1970s. County budget officer Donna Stewart said the completed three-story building cost about $16.9 million, and the new Lee Walker center is budgeted at almost $10 million.

Precinct 3 commissioner Bobbie Mitchell said the government center houses her office as well as that of the constable, the justice of the peace, the county clerk and the Department of Public Safety among others, and that the health department and juvenile probation center will eventually move across the street.
