In a quiet, quick regular meeting, Lewisville City Council incorporated a framework for valet parking in Old Town and approved new economic agreements Feb. 5.

According to the agenda background material, Jim Murray, owner of the forthcoming J2 Steakhouse, requested right-of-way allowances to get to a nearby valet parking lot, only to learn the city code doesn’t allow for valet parking in the first place. City staff has been working on the ordinance since May of last year.

Mayor Rudy Durham said this was a benchmark for Old Town Growth he’d been looking forward to.

“This is one of the milestones we looked at years ago,” he said. “‘If we had success in Old Town, will we start having parking problems?’ And the valet is just part of that.”

The council also approved two economic development agreements, one to transfer existing agreements with Legacy Pointe to TSMJV after the development group changed its name, and the other to reimburse Old Town Brewery owner Darrell Moseley for exterior renovations and fencing. Moseley and Bruce Properties are projecting to spend $47,571 on the improvements, and the city will reimburse as much as $12,363.60 of that.

In a 6 p.m. workshop session, the council and city staff discussed a water conservation rebate program to reward residents for using less water. After analyzing similar plans in the area, the staff recommended implementing a rebate program to encourage residents to buy less water-intensive appliances such as low-flow toilets and water-saving showerheads. Residents would receive credits on their water bills of up to $375 per household per year depending on which appliances they purchased. Staff is seeking to roll the project out during Water Conservation Month in April.

City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of every month, unless they fall on recognized holidays. The meetings start at 7 p.m. in City Hall, usually with a workshop session beforehand at 6 p.m.
