The Lewisville Texan Journal is accepting intern applications for the fall and spring semesters. We are looking for writers interested in the workings of a mom-and-pop paper. Previous interns have continued to write for us after their internship has ended. This is an opportunity to get your journalism career started.
From breaking news to community features to business enterprise stories, you will be able to contribute to any and/or all sections of our Lewisville-focused publication. You will also have a hand in editing and designing our weekly paper. We value versatility.
This is a great opportunity to learn about hometown journalism, get an array of clips for your portfolio and work independently in a collaborative environment. You will have a say in what you cover as long as it is relevant to Lewisville. You will also get meals on deadline night. This is an unpaid position available to students for class hours.
Our ideal candidate has…
- experience with media writing
- a comprehensive knowledge of social media
- an understanding of AP style and copy editing
- a tenacious work ethic
- photography experience
- access to transportation
- lives in Denton County
Additional assets that aren’t necessary but will be highly considered include…
- print layout experience
- photo editing capabilities
- Lewisville residency
- working knowledge of HTML, PHP, WordPress, Google Docs and/or LucidPress
Send PDF of resume, at least three samples of your writing and any questions to ulsh@LewisvilleTexan.com. In your application, let us know what type of reporting you’re interested in, what you’re hoping to learn and why joining LTJ appeals to you.
The application deadline for the fall semester is Aug. 26. Apply for the spring semester by Jan. 6.
