At 1:10 p.m. Friday afternoon, a head-on crash occurred in the 2600 block of FM 544 between Windhaven Parkway and Crown of Gold. A small Lewisville ISD-owned pickup truck and a dump truck collided on the two-lane road. A 60-year-old man was injured in the pickup.
Radio traffic indicates that an ex-firefighter came upon the wreck and notified 911 operators that the driver of the pickup was pinned. He was conscious and breathing at that time. A PHI air ambulance helicopter was called in to transport the victim.
Fire Chief Tim Tittle said that firefighters cut the car away from the man, and that he lost a heartbeat. He said that medics began CPR, which continued until the victim was at the hospital.
His name has not been released.
Lieutenant Orlando Hinojosa with the Denton County Sheriff’s Office said he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. At press time, neither Tittle nor Hinojosa could say where the victim was taken.
Because the crash was outside Lewisville city limits, it is being investigated by Denton County Sheriff’s Office. Hinojosa said investigators had determined that the victim’s pickup truck had crossed the double-yellow line, striking the dump truck.
We will update this story if we learn more.
