Man shoots at ex-boyfriend he thought poisoned him

The first call was to the Tuscany at Lakepointe apartments, in the 800 block of Lakeside Circle at 7:36 p.m.  According to LPD Capt. Dan Rochelle, the suspect Mark Kevin Palm Jr., 36, had been in an apartment where he lives with his grandmother and great grandmother.  He was smoking methamphetamine with a former boyfriend when he became convinced that the other man had poisoned his drink with bleach.  Palm then allegedly pulled out a .380 Smith and Wesson pistol and tried to shoot the other man, missing him.

A neighbor who is a friend of the grandmother came to the apartment to try to calm the shooter, but he pointed the gun at her.

Police arrived and were able to take Palm into custody without anyone getting shot.

Palm was arrested for two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance based on 14 grams of methamphetamine found in the residence.  Rochelle said it was a large quantity of meth, but that police did not find scales or baggies typical with drug dealers.  The gun Palm had was found to have been stolen out of Grapevine.

Palm is held in Lewisville jail in lieu of $120,000 total bond, awaiting transfer to Denton County Jail.

Palm had been convicted in 2011 for three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Woman shot by passenger while smoking marijuana in car

At 10:30 p.m., Lewisville police responded to the emergency room at Medical City Lewisville, where an 18-year-old woman showed up with a gunshot wound to her back, with an exit wound through her leg.

Rochelle said the victim was driven to the hospital by her friend, and that they were not initially cooperative with the police investigation.  Eventually, according to Rochelle, the women told police that they had picked up an 18-year-old male, and drove to the 1400 block of Lakecrest Lane.  That street has a dead-end cul-de-sac with no houses at the end.

There, the teens smoked marijuana.  The young women told police they believed the shooting was an accident.  Rochelle said the male fiddled with the pistol, which went off and shot the victim.  The male fled the scene, and the female friend drove the victim to the hospital.

Rochelle said the victim was treated and released.

Police questioned the shooter, but no arrest has yet been made.  Rochelle said that the victim had not decided whether to press charges.
