There’ll be a new place in Old Town where you can snag three kinds of fried bird — as well as smoked chicken, grilled fish or smoked beef — and, don’t tell the law, you’ll be able to choose from more than 50 kinds of giggle water to sip on.

Prohibition Chicken, a full-service restaurant and bar, will open its doors Tuesday, April 25 at 201 W. Church St. in Lewisville at 4:30 p.m., according to a press release.

Serving more than 40 sorts of whiskeys, 11 plus kinds of scotch and an array of modern and classic cocktails, the family-style eatery will be equipped with a “speakeasy” bar through the phone booth in the back.

Prohibition in the U.S., which banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol with the Eighteenth Amendment, lasted throughout the Roaring Twenties and ended in 1933. Speakeasies, named for the soft manner in which a person was to speak about and within one to keep police from interfering,  were created as a way for patrons to obtain and drink the banned booze.

The restaurant will also serve Texas-sourced chicken and beef from Dunbar Hollow Farms and Beeman Family Ranch respectively, the release said.

Co-owner and chef Roger Kaplan said it was important to the originators to know where their chickens came from.

“[W]e work closely with Dunbar to raise antibiotic-free, humanely nurtured and handled chicken delivered fresh to us everyday,” he said.

Rock Libations, a Dallas-based group that builds original restaurant concepts, conceived the idea of the Prohibition-themed restaurant in conjunction with Kaplan’s Restaurant Innovations, a restaurant-support and consulting collaboration. Rock Libations previously developed Kenichi and Shooters in Dallas and Chopshop Sports Garage in Carrollton.

Initially Prohibition Chicken was thought to open in February then the first week of April. The three restaurants that moved in on the 1.76 acre of land at the northwest corner of Charles and Church streets were part of a city initiative, which offered incentives like tax rebates and fee waivers, to boost economic development.

Prohibition Chicken will be open from 4:30 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday following opening day. The menu will be served all day, according to the release.

Correction: This article previously mislabelled Rock Libations as JBKJ Restaurant #1 Enterprises. While the restaurant group was previously called JBKJ, the name has since changed. The earlier article also failed to include Restaurant Innovations’ role in creating the concept.
