U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District officials released the Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact on the proposed dam safety modifications to the Lewisville Lake Dam today and is seeking comments on assessing the potential environmental consequences resulting from its implementation.
While dam failure is a remote probability, the risk to human life and property should failure occur is high enough to warrant action to address identified deficiencies. Under the proposed action, the USACE would reduce risk of dam failure from seepage deficiencies at two different locations and risk of dam failure associated with spillway instability. All the construction activities associated with the proposed action would be conducted on Lewisville Lake federal project lands.
An open house for the Lewisville Dam Safety Modifications EA will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theater Room at the MCL Grand Theater.
Copies of the EA will be available at the meeting for review. All written comments must be postmarked on or before Oct. 15, 2016.
Comments may be submitted in writing to Marcia Hackett, USACE, Fort Worth District, P.O. Box 17300, Fort Worth, TX 76102-0300, or via email to email@example.com.
Written comments may also be submitted at the meeting.
