A 45-year-old woman from Flower Mound died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained when she jumped off the Garden Ridge overpass over Interstate 35E into traffic below. The incident happened at about 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

Lewisville police Capt. Michael Moore said that witnesses told police that the woman jumped from the overpass deliberately. Upon landing in the northbound traffic lanes, she was struck by a vehicle. When medics arrived, she was conscious and breathing, but had a large laceration on her left leg. Medics applied a tourniquet, and she was transported to the hospital in Denton.

A woman died Sept. 23 after jumping from this bridge into traffic below. Estimated height from rail to pavement is 26 feet.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office, she died there at 4:27 p.m.

Moore said that police had investigated and found that the woman’s car was parked at nearby Tower Bay park.  Evidence there helped police determine the action was a suicide and that there was no foul play.

The northbound lanes of I-35E were closed briefly for the accident, but because there were witnesses, there was no lengthy ground investigation necessary, and lanes were reopened quickly.

Because the victim took her own life, The Lewisville Texan Journal is withholding her name.

This article has been updated to clarify why police believed it was a suicide.
