Lewisville High School quarter-miler Jadon Johnson is making his second consecutive trip to the UIL state track and field championships in Austin — and this year he’s bringing along some teammates.
Johnson finished fourth at last year’s state meet as the only participant from LHS. His second-place finish at the Region I-6A meet a couple weeks ago qualified the North Carolina signee for this year’s state event.
Johnson also anchored the Farmers mile relay team that finished second to DeSoto and qualified for state. He was joined by fellow seniors Cedrick Dockery, Kwame Mickels and Nekobe Pomaney on the 4×400 team.
Both state finals races will take place on Saturday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.
The relay team barely edged El Paso El Dorado for second place at the regional meet at UT-Arlington, finishing a half-second faster with a time of 3:21.23. DeSoto ran away with first place with a time of 3:17.44.
Sean Hooper of Keller Fossil Ridge won the 400 meters at regionals with a time of 47.52. Johnson’s 47.70 was .16 second faster than Gabriel Navarro of El Paso Franklin.
Johnson fell less than a half-second short of a medal at his first trip to the UIL meet. He ran the 400 meters in 47.7 seconds — good for fourth place.
